Hoepfner Burgfest and 36 degrees. Wonderful guest spot with the Sean Treacy Band. 5 numbers today. Feast rocked out before a lovely version of Blind which I have to admit, judging by the audience reaction, fills me with positivism as to the potential at German radio when its released in early August. The crowd reacted really strongly and considering most of the 1000 or so people in the Biergarten hardly knew me outside Marillion it was a statement as to the strength of the songwriting on Feast. We went for Sugar Mice next with it being the first time wed played it together. Michael the guitarist slipped into the old Marillion version venturing into Steve Rs guitar solo rather than the Van Morrison vibe we had on the Fishheads Club tour. It kind of threw me but it morphed back into the clap along acoustic version with a few pointers and sailed brilliantly to conclusion. A very emotional and dynamic rendition that the crowd loved. The sun was beating down directly on stage and I was feeling the heat. Id nominated Kayleigh up next, again with no rehearsals apart from an acoustic run through pre show backstage. It wasnt the best as I huffed and puffed and bent melodies to keep me in the frame. I was desperate for water during the solo but only found dregs of fizzy stuff in the bottles on stage. It was the first time Id sung it in a while and it showed although I did pride myself on remembering all the lyrics! :-) A 6 out of 10 on the score sheet for me with the band delivering a more than capable version that will be a lot better tomorrow night in Durlach at a now sold out charity gig! :-) We rounded my participation of with Lavender and as at the Tennis Club in Ruppuerr on Saturday it did the job and more with the band confident at taking solos and directions from me as to the dynamics. My participation threw a lot of people and I think more than a few were impressed at what we had managed to conjure up. I had a ball despite the trial and tribulations of the German heat wave! At the end of the gig I was reminded about just how unfit I am with far too much office/PC time with accompanying doughnuts and not enough gym time! :-/ That can be fixed in the coming months with some will power and dedication and I know the results will benefit everybody but mainly myself! Backstage after show we were all enthusiastically happy and looking forward to tomorrows show where another couple of numbers will be added to my set. They are a lovely bunch of guys and fine musicians and we are already talking about more opportunities to play together further down the line. Its not going to take away from the Day job but now and again its nice to go out and sing for fun without all the attendant pressures and today was definitely fun! :-)
