Hola, todos! Well, Ive spent a few days in Costa Rica now, and were having a good time. So far, we took a night flight to Boston and enjoyed walking around the center of that city, flew down to Florida and stayed in a motel near the Fort Lauderdale Airport, got up and flew over Miami and western Cuba and Nicaragua on the way to the central valley of Costa Rica...very lush and green with beautiful tropical plants and impressive green mountains. We visited some of Wades dear friends, had some delicious Costa Rican food, and took a walk in downtown San Jose with a friend. It only poured rain on us for about 3 minutes, and yesterday hardly a drop of rain, even though this is the rainy season until December when it usually pours rain all afternoon. Yesterday we took the bus out into the beautiful hilly countryside, passing small plantations, mostly bananas, and we arrived in Puntarenas, a town on a spit of land sticking way out into Nicoya Bay. Caught the next bus to another pretty town, Liberia, and then finally another bus to the coast at Tamarindo. The traveling took longer than expected, but it was beautiful. But on that last bus, we had some unexpected excitement. As we were traveling through a rural village on the way to the coast, all of a sudden, there was a loud crashing sound and the bus came to a sudden halt. Fortunately it was not too jarring, and I dont think any of the passengers were injured. I thought we must have hit a car or a building in the dark, but it turned out it was a cow wandering the street in the middle of the town! After some minutes, the bus driver used a a passengers cellphone to call his headquarters and then told us the best way to get to Tamarindo (10 minutes away) would be to catch the next bus in 40 minutes. Most passengers eventually decided to leave the bus, and a group of four of us walked to the center of town and found someone with a private car to serve as our taxi ($10 for the four of us). Wade and I were very glad to reach our air conditioned hotel room at the Tamarindo Vista Villas, and after we got some pasta and some cash down the street (my dinner was about 9,000 colones with dessert, about $18.50), we returned to the hotel and crashed. After sleeping well, I got up and looked out from our balcony to see a beautiful bay and to hear the tropical birds and even monkeys in the trees. Its going to be another nice day! Tonight to the Hotel Le Bergerac in San Jose, tomorrow excursions including a volcanos crater, then tomorrow night a 16-hour bus ride (ugh!) to Panama...
