Hold it, I have a confession to make. My first assignment in - TopicsExpress

Hold it, I have a confession to make. My first assignment in this journalism world was Kirya Live at Serena Hotel. I was wet behind the ears. I was scared. Scared that I will screw up. Scared because I was young and a tad naive in this thing. I thought I didnt have enough and the right words to describe a show everyone was jabbering about, a show everyone was craving to be part of. I was (still I am) a huge fan of the crooner and for some reason, I was handed the opportunity to tell the world how the show was, in my words. I was nibbling things in my phone; writing a smorgasboard of things that I saw: Maurices attire, his hairdo (hehe), the way ladies, literally, pulled out their ears in hysterical fervor, the way they shouted their voices hoarse, his songs I mumbled to-word after word, the gleaming lighting, the mammoth crowd and the pithy performances. My editor would later tell me to send in the darned piece when Maurice steps off the stage. When he did, I peed in my pants (roll your eyes here!). I stayed in Mukono then. And I remember on my way back home, around 11PM, I had no entry to the piece. I typed the gosh-damned thing on my phone. Twirled words, though I would later feel short of words for the whole narrative. That piece would later kick-start the journey of my dream. My writing dream. A dream all ye folks would not realize, and a dream I had chased since childhood. It was a badly written piece, at least for me. I re-read it countless times, with tears flooding my eyes and when I sent it in, I felt the world hold its breathe. History was written. The story ran the next day. In The New Vision. I celebrate that day as though it was my birthday. And it is. Story for another day, that one. And on this day, Maurice Kirya launches his DVD. At The Sound Cup. Even though I am here taking his free coffee, he will never realize that even though he made history, somewhere in that crowd, a young man with larger-than-life dreams was making his own history.
