Holding my head with my hands as I try to figure out the rules and - TopicsExpress

Holding my head with my hands as I try to figure out the rules and regulations for registering Colored Angora Goats. I have such mixed feelings about registering animals with a registry. Look at what the American Kennel Club registration has done to many breeds of dogs. Lets take Old English Bulldogs as an example. The breed standards have caused breeders to develop dogs that cannot breed naturally - AI has to be used - and cannot deliver puppies unless a C-Section is performed - all because the breed standard is for a large head and small hips. And then, there is the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) - which has turned lively, active horses into what I call peanut rollers - their heads held so unnaturally low in all paces, that it looks like they will trip over their noses. There are two registries for Colored Angora Goats. I dont show my critters, so registration does nothing for me but increase expenses. And to be frank, probably 1/3 of my herd are closer to the more primitive Navajo Angora Goat type - the locks are more of a wave and they dont have much mohair on their faces and none below their knees. The breed standard is for mohair over the entire body - which is NOT practical for goats who can range through field and woods, like mine do. And, from what I have seen and read, my goats have a much better temperament than many of the show-type goats. I dont know if I have screwed up everything in my life because of this or not. Sigh.
