Holidays in a Foreign Land This is just a short note to certain friends I am blessed to have, but something for all to read if you know someone like these friends. This time of year is special for many people. For many reasons; for family, for faith, for merely sharing in the love that all those things represent. Many of my friends, both facebook and real time, have lost one or more loved ones. Family, friends, people who made their lives complete have passed on. The holidays will seem strange to my friends. When I lost my mother, Christmas became “foreign” to me. Not something I couldnt enjoy or be a part of, just different. As if a little bit of “home” had somehow leaked out of my life. When my father passed, it affected me differently, and yet, the same. Those who have gone through it will understand. For those of you who haven’t gone through it, treasure the times you have with your loved ones now. And if you know someone who has gone through this recently, please understand that the momentarily lapse of attention as they stare into the distance is just them seeing an image of past times, recalling things which seemed so small at the time, but now flow into their heart in a wave of emotion. They’ll need you to understand that. To those friends, I’m not you, I won’t fully understand your feelings; they’re too unique and personal. Just know that I’m thinking about you and know that those we have lost, whether in the sphere of the Heavens or in the treasured memories we keep, will always be with us. Seek the Joy in those thoughts. Peace be in your heart.
