Holocaust Memorial Day – Monday 27th January 2014 Our History Society students would like to ask everyone in our community to make a pledge, not for money, but to do something small that will really make a big difference: · To raise awareness, try to remember a quote or fact, and spread the word, encouraging others to do the same. A pledge to pass it on. · To notice and challenge when your friends say something negative about someone because of their differences. A pledge against silence and compliance. · To take a minute to think about an individual victim or survivor of any genocide. A pledge for a person. So, on Monday ……….. · when you pass through the Atrium, collect a luggage tag (similar to those placed on the luggage of victims of genocide) and attach it to your HSFC lanyard for the day, to show your support · Display your pledge on the ‘Pledge Board’ · Take time to read student reflections on a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau alongside poetry. If you would like to find out more about Holocaust Memorial Day, please ask the HSFC History Society students on the stall and/or click on the link below: hmd.org.uk/ “If you want to prevent yourself and your loved ones from being victims of the next genocide, survivors must tell their stories — and we must all listen to them.” François-Xavier Ngarambe, President of Ibuka, the Rwandan Survivors’Association t0.gstatic/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTaOuL4L0zUACxYSLZvQsxnWZ5_xzKJ1g06BBN6GzP__VnM5Kgz
