Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 19:18–24) The first of two similar experiences for Saul (18:8–13) shows that God has removed His Spirit from Saul and has allowed an evil spirit to control him, as demonstrated by Saul’s actions, which are consistent with the nature of the enemy who desires to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). In verses 18–24, God chooses to temporarily place His Spirit on the messengers of Saul, and eventually on Saul himself. In spite of his arrogance, Saul is unable to resist the influence of the Spirit on him. Just as God did with Saul, in His sovereignty He offers us free will to submit to the authority of His Spirit and reject the spirit of the evil one. The resulting actions are demonstrated in a growth of the “fruits of the Spirit” and the death of the “desires of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16–26). Living Life 15/3/14
