Home & Apartment Trends Magazine page 56-57 Bright Prospect Indonesia’s improving economy and business confidence has a spin-off in the peoperty market. High economic growth, controllable inflation and minimal fluctuations in interest rates in Indonesia have led to stronger investment and improved business confidence. The latest property market report from Coldwell Banker Commercial says although Indonesia has recorded a slowing economic growth in the second quarter of 2013, it remains one of the most attractive countries for investment. There has been a significant increase in foreign direct investment-up 18.9% compared to the same period last year. Domestic investment grew by 59.1% over the same period. Other indicators include more construction activity, an increase in the number of new project launches, more transactions in both the lease and strata title markets, increased occupancy and sales rates in most of the property sector, and significant growth in rental returns and selling prices. These indicators are identified in most major cities in Indonesia, with modern and high-rise property developments mostly concentrated in Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and Bandung. Emerging cities and regions where the economic landscape has changed dramatically in recent years include Bali, Makassar, Balikpapan, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Samarinda and Pekanbaru. The report also lists several “promising” cities and locations. These include Kendari, Bandar Lampung, Pontianak, Manado, Banjarmasin and Malang. With stable economic growth forecast over the next few years, the property market outlook in Indonesia is expected ti remain positive.
