Comparative Religions If All Religions Are True, then God is Cruel by Paul Rezkalla In 2003, the short-film Most made its way onto the big screen. The film shows the story of a single father who takes his son to work with him at the bridge which he tends. He was responsible for raising and lowering the bridge at the appropriate times to allow ships and trains to pass. One day as the bridge remained raised, a train approached an hour before schedule. After failing to get his father’s attention and warn him to lower the bridge for the quickly approaching train, the boy attempted to manually lower it on his own and accidentally fell into the gear-works that enabled to bridge to operate. Upon seeing this, the father was left with the soul-shredding decision: crush his boy under the gears to save the train filled with hundreds of passengers, or save his son at the cost of the hundreds on the train. However, they teach contrary doctrines regarding the nature and person of Jesus Christ. Christians have taught from the beginning that Jesus is the divine Son of God. Muslims reject the biblical teaching that Christ is the divine Son of God. Islam builds upon the teachings of the Qur’an, which is considered perfect, and without error. The Qur’an teaches that Jesus was a significant prophet but not the divine Son of God. It is apparent that Christianity and Islam teach contrary views of Christ and, therefore, cannot both be true at the same time. Does the Bible or the Qur’an have the greater weight of evidence to support its teachings on the nature of Christ? It almost sounds esoteric. Theists believe that God exists and atheists merely lack that belief. Well, on that view, my Chevy is just as much of an atheist as Richard Dawkins, for it, too, lacks the belief that God exists. And I don’t say that lightly; I love my Chevy. (read more) Does Science Show that Islam Is True? by David Wood Muslim reverence for Muhammad’s supposed scientific precision can hardly be exaggerated. Exaggerations aside, the scientific accuracy of Muhammad’s statements is notorious for being singularly unimpressive to anyone who isn’t already a committed Muslim. The tactic employed by Muslim apologists is (1) to read a simple verse from the Qur’an, (2) to twist and stretch the interpretation until it conforms to modern science, and (3) to proclaim that there is absolutely no way an illiterate, seventh-century leader could have revealed all these scientific insights without the help of God. After hearing such arguments, Muslims typically stand in awe. Others stand there wondering, “Where did the verse say that?” Lets take a look at the scientific accuracy of Muhammads views on human reproduction. You are about to sit down for a late breakfast on a Saturday morning. The french toast smells delicious! A glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee will make the start of a great day. You pour the syrup and prepare to take that tasty first bite, when there is a knock on your door. Perhaps it’s the neighbor’s child asking for your daughter. Maybe it’s the guy next door who would like to borrow your Craftsman Tools — again. You open the door and . . . oh! . . . it’s the Mormons or the Jehovah’s Witnesses! You desire to share with them and feel that you should — but — you do not want to get into a conversation unprepared. So you politely say, “I’m too busy” and close the door. If you want to be ready the next time they come, this book is for you. Its purpose is to provide the knowledge you need to see why these groups do not represent God’s truth and to share this information effectively with Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses the next time they knock on your door! (read more) How Does Pauls Testimony Compare to Muhammads Testimony? by Bill Pratt I have quoted from historical scholar Mike Licona on the importance of the apostle Paul’s testimony about Jesus’ resurrection. There are skeptics, however, who want to discount Paul. One such skeptic is atheist Michael Martin, who questions why Christians accept Paul’s testimony, but not Muhammad’s testimony about the angel Gabriel. What are the differences between Paul and Muhammad? There are several that need to be examined. With the rapid increase in the transmission of information and the ability to travel on a worldwide scale has also come an increasing awareness that both our world and society contain a multitude of diverse and conflicting viewpoints on many different issues. No where is this pluralism more evident than in the realm of religion. More than ever before, we are conscious of the existence of the worlds many religions-not only the major religions of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, but also a host of smaller yet enduring religious movements. What should the Christians attitude be toward non-Christian religions and their followers? This is a question becoming more difficult to ignore. To answer this question accurately and fairly we must look into the way non-Christian religions began. (read more) Will Everyone Be Saved? A Look at Universalism by Rick Wade Universalism has been believed by some Christians since the early centuries of the church. What makes it attractive? For one thing, Universalists wonder how a loving God could send people to hell—a place of conscious torment—forever. Furthermore, God is a God of justice, and a punishment of eternal torment seems incommensurate with our finite sins, as bad as they may be. (read more) Aren’t all religions basically the same? This study examines the crucial question that needs to be addressed which is whether the God presented in the Quran is indeed the same God revealed in the Holy Bible. The Quran alleges that the God of Islam, Allah, is indeed the God of Abraham and hence the God of Scripture, Yahweh Elohim. But is this the case? Are we to assume that just because the Quran states that Allah is Yahweh of the Bible that both Jews and Christians are obligated to believe this to be true? Or do we examine the nature and attributes of Allah in order to compare them with the biblical portrait of Yahweh to find if this is the case? Kabbalah, also spelled Kaballah, Qabalah, or Cabalah, developed between the 6th and 13th centuries among the Jews in Babylonia, Italy, Provence, and Spain. The word “Kabbalah” means to receive and refers to revelation from God received by Jews and passed to succeeding generations through oral tradition. The word was first used by mainstream Judaism but later came to refer to those who believed that only a select few were given the secret knowledge from God as to the true meaning of Scriptures. Kabbalah uses occult practices and is considered to be a cult. (read more) Is Scientology Christian or a Cult? Scientology is a difficult religion to summarize. Today, Christian Science is foremost of the mind-sciences family of religions that emerged from 19th century religious and intellectual fervor.
