Home Invasions are 8 times as likely as House Fires. The recent story of the home invasion in Anchorage reminded me of the above statement which I heard in an interview. Instead of taking it at face value, I researched it on the internet. I found statistics from the FBI, Fire Marshall sites, Justice Department, and others. The problem with looking it up is that everyone seems to have a different definition of home invasion. However, if we accept the definition as a home that is illegally entered for the purpose of committing a crime while at least one occupant is home, then it is true. Robberies, Rapes, Murders, Hostage Situations, and others add up to 8 times the number of House Fires. The term home invasion might not be reported but another crime instead, however it is still 8 times as likely a person(s) will illegally enter your home; with the intent of committing a crime; while you or a family member is at home, as it is likely you will have a house fire.
