For the last few months, Luqman was criticizing Geo News for its pro-Indian and American activities and was in the headlines since. At different occasions, he came out with evidences that proved Geo News’ biasness towards India and America. This certainly played a key role in defaming one of the biggest news channels in Pakistan, to which, Geo News responded by filing a complaint in the court. According to The News Tribe’s correspondent, the court took action on it and ordered arrest warrants against him. In addition to that, defense analyst Zaid Zaman Hamid was also listed in the arrest warrant that was issued. “Warrant also issued for Zaid Zaman Hamid, a defence analyst in the country,” said The News Tribe’s correspondent. The news was also confirmed by Mubashir Luqman himself via social networking website, Twitter. “Karachi court issues arrest warrants for Zaid Hamid and Mubasher Lucman on a complaint filed by GEO TV” he tweeted. Mubashir Luqman currently works for ARY News and hosts the renowned show “Khara Sach”. Not only he was involved in making reports on Geo News and their employees such as Hamid Mir and Kamran Khan, but also, he recently hosted shows on corruption from current government of Pakistan. The step taken by the Sind High Court is raising a number of questions on how freely journalists can work. Some analysts believe that the main reason behind issuing arrests warrants against Luqman and Hamid was not Geo News, but was the current government. Such actions by the court will certainly hurt the concept of ‘freedom of speech’, as well as the ‘freedom of press’ in Pakistan.
