Home Owners’ Charter: Ogun Begins Site Inspection As more and more home owners in Ogun State are trooping out to take advantage of the extension on the deadline of the Home owners’ charter programme, the process of verifying claims given by those who have already submitted their forms have commenced in earnest. The programme is an initiative of the State government to enable home owners who built their houses without obtaining necessary documents acquired them at a huge discount rather than making them pay fines. The programme, originally scheduled to end last Friday, 28th February had been extended till March 31st by the Government as requested by the people to enable them benefit. Speaking on the site inspection exercise going on simultaneously in different parts of the State, Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mr. Gbenga Otenuga, said the inspectors which are in group of 10 comprise professionals including Town Planners, Surveyors, Estate Valuers and Architects from the Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning and Bureau of Lands & Survey to verify that claims made by applicants were actually true “The groups were dispatched to 10 different areas of Abeokuta and its metropolis to flag-off the inspection in areas such as Gbonagun, Obantoko, Ajanbgohun Eku Village, Fajol area all in Odeda Local Government, Onikolobo-Adigbe in Obafemi Owode, Abiola Way in Abeokuta South. The team had also move to Sango-Otta, Agbara, Ijoko and its environs as well as Sagamu and they will also move to other part of the State soon“, Otenuga said. According to him, the applicants had been earlier contacted through calls and text messages using the telephone numbers filled in the forms they submitted, indicating that so far, the exercise had been smooth as the applicants in the various places visited had been waiting patiently for the arrival of the inspectors. Some applicants who spoke in an interview could not hide their joy as they praised the State Government for the initiative which they said would make them certified owners of their properties, urging other property owners in their category not to miss the rare opportunity. One of them, Dr. Adebayo Rasaki in Gbonangun Obantoko said “this inspection has given me hope that afterall, skeptics are wrong, it has shown that the home owner’s charter programme is factual and not fictional” Another applicant, Mrs. Abiodun Afuwape from Sango Ota expressed delight that “true to his words, Governor Amosun was already matching his words with actions, the inspection is making our dreams come true”.
