Home Sweet Home... Monroe, LA (Bill Ruple Stadium) -- After a summer of ongoing construction — and speculation to go along with it — high school football will finally make its 2014 debut at Carroll and Neville on Friday night. Field turf installation at both schools will be complete just in time for this weeks home openers at Carrolls Thomas/Blade Memorial Stadium and Nevilles Bill Ruple Stadium. Hellas Construction — the company who handled the project — and Monroe City Schools superintendent Brent Vidrine completed the final walkthrough Wednesday afternoon. Were excited this is nearing its end and we can get back to normal, Neville coach Mickey McCarty said. What Im looking forward to the most is seeing the kids faces when they can finally get out there and get on it. McCarty said that not all of the buttons are down yet as neither the track at Neville or Carroll will be finished on Friday night, but that it doesnt pose a safety issue at either field. Hellas is set to finish the tracks at each school sometime next week. Neville hosts rival Ouachita and Carroll welcomes Peabody from Alexandria. Hellas and Monroe City Schools began the turf project this past June with the idea of the fields being completed in time for jamboree week, but an abnormal amount of rainfall during the summer forced two different delays that pushed the final due date to this week. Neville, Carroll and Wossman all played its jamborees at ULMs JPS Field at Malone Stadium. Monroe City Schools financed the turf project with a portion of the $58.8 million it received with the renewal of a city bond issue on last Novembers ballot. The districts rationale for the turf was that not only will it benefit football, but also the bands and other sports at each school, while also saving time and money having to line the fields before games. That right there is about $8,000 I can keep in my budget not having to buy paint, Carroll coach Jackie Hamilton said. This is a big boost for not only our program, but the school itself. Its something everyone can be proud of.
