Home from a week in the sun. All our families there are doing well and happy to see us back. Tonito has his braces for his legs now through doctors without borders program. He got into it when we paid to send him to see the local specialist a few years ago. It has taken this long but it would have never even started if he did not get his name on the list a few years ago. What a warm feeling we have from a few dollars at the right place at the right time and a determined grandmother that chased me down and begged for help. We took 200 kilos in 13 totes. We fought our way past customs and had to leave five at the airport, but got eight through. He was using an old law about not allowing used clothes to enter the country. I retrieved the five totes and returned them to Canada with us for another try next trip. One asshole mad because someone was getting help and it was not him. I would not forget to retrieve them because after a few weeks, he would have taken them home himself. It was the principal of the whole thing. I even told him in Spanish that the clothing was for kids in Soco that had nothing and he did not care. Our rep even came into the airport and tried to help us beg, but he was determined to stop someone from getting help. A true definition of an Asshole. The rich get richer and poor stay poor. Another good note was that Tereza has bought and stored a large pile of cement blocks and is almost ready to start building a cement house for herself and her kids. Safer during storms and termite proof. It will be small by our standards but a mansion for her family. In a village made of scrap wood and tin. One day, this past week, it rained so hard that animals we gathering in pairs and locals were building a large boat. Happy to be home and cant wait to go back.
