Homeschooling is not easy but with Gods grace, we can do it. Once He anoints you, He will equip you! :) Sharing with you part of an article that was published in the Home Base July 2014 issue, about CFAs Annual Anointing Day: ANOINTED BY GOD By Pam Cristina S. Cadiz As we start a new year of homeschooling, it is Catholic Filipino Academy’s tradition to begin it with the Anointing Day. It was held last June 20, 2014 at the Santuario de San Antonio Parish Center in Makati City. What is the meaning of anointing and why is it so important? “The origin of anointing was from a practice of shepherds. Lice and other insects would often get into the wool of sheep, and when they got near the sheep’s head, they could burrow into the sheep’s ears and kill the sheep. So, ancient shepherds poured oil on the sheep’s head. This made the wool slippery, making it impossible for insects to get near the sheep’s ears because the insects would slide off. From this, anointing became symbolic of blessing, protection, and empowerment.” For new homeschool parents and old-timers like me, it is best to be “blessed, prayed over and be empowered” for a BIG task at hand. Father Moises “Moks” Eduardo Ciego, who celebrated the Holy Mass, told the Parable of the Pencil. A pencil can sketch beautiful drawings, create inspiring stories or be used in any way that can benefit us. We are like pencils because we can produce many wonderful things. However, for us to be able to do so, it is important to allow God to hold and guide us; remember that desolation and bad experiences can sharpen and make us wiser; and accept mistakes, erase and correct them if possible. CFA Founder Bro. Bo Sanchez also encouraged and enlightened us parents. “TRUST,” he said, “is an important word that will help us endure and keep on in this calling.” For the times when we question our decision to homeschool; when our child does not want to sit and finish the exercises we arduously prepared; when we cannot even understand the lessons we need to teach our kids; when our laundry hampers are as high as Mt. Everest, dishes from breakfast and lunch are still sitting in the sink and your children start to write their names on the dust-covered furniture; when we cannot even eat out on Sundays because of budget constraints; or when everything we have planned for seems to not fall into place... all of these should be lifted up to God. We must TRUST that He will give us the wisdom for the things we do not understand and the knowledge to teach our children, and TRUST that He will give us the courage to face all the challenges in our homeschooling life. Anointing Day also means fellowship. Since we have heeded the call of God to homeschool, He has also provided us with loving and experienced persons to help us in this journey and wonderful families with whom to share ideas, stories, happiness and success. The CFA Team, Parent Coaches together with Parent Coordinators were introduced during the activity. Each family also exchanged Family Contact Cards and the homeschoolers traded pencils with unique designs and patterns. So now that we have been anointed, let us welcome the 2014-2015 School Year with a SMILE, enjoy it with our kids and declare with faith, “We will have a GREAT HOMESCHOOL year!” “Educating children is not about mastering the material, but making memories – teaching them that learning is an adventure worth pursuing.” (Jeannie Fulbright, jeanniefulbright) (Photo credits: Marowe Sanchez, Menchie Santos, Noel Comia)
