Hon. Anthony Njaramba, Hon. Mishi and the rest of the Mombasa - TopicsExpress

Hon. Anthony Njaramba, Hon. Mishi and the rest of the Mombasa delegation landed in Atlanta today morning and visited some of the National Women in Agriculture Association projects in Aquaponics and hydroponics farms in and the outskirts of Atlanta. The technology is so well blended that they use fish waste from their Fish ponds to create the fertilizer for the crops and the water is used to feed the plants. Its a whole economic yet efficient system that benefits farmers greatly. Clay pellets are used as a medium where they plant their crops and filter water. The use of green houses is also common practice to protect the plants from frost during winter, in our mombasa case, tropical greenhouses that come with a heat regulating ventilator and shade nets are the most appropriate for warm weather. The clay pellets Aquaponics technology is one we hope to adopt as soon as we are back. The team also visited a livestock farmer Joy, who is keeping sheep, goats and chicken. She is also practicing conservation agriculture through the use of 6x3 ft plant boxes that produce an average of 24 kilos of capsicum per small box per season! Each box of hers capsicums produces an average of 24kgs. She also has a large in house Aquaponics with Fish pond project that is almost functional. So much for our women to choose from.
