Honda had become the Top selling in 2014 for non-national car. p/s Thank you for Honda supporter. As 2014 drew to a close, Honda will most likely emerge as the biggest winner of that year, pending an official sales tally from the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). The MAA typically takes about three weeks to compile the sales data submitted by its members, so December 2014′s figures will most probably be announced by the third week of January. Market research company, Frost & Sullivan, expects 2014′s new vehicle sales to reach around 665,000 units, an increase of 1.4 percent from 2013. According to Frost & Sullivan’s Senior Partner, Mr. Kavan Mukhtyar, the growth was largely driven by positive reception to several mass-market new models like the Honda City, Honda Jazz, Perodua Axia and Proton Iriz. With two of its core models credited as the driving force behind 2014′s numbers, it is no surprise that Honda has for the first time in more than 10 years, overtaken Toyota as the top-selling brand in the non-national passenger car segment. Between 2012 to 2014, Honda has more than doubled its market share in the passenger car segment, from 6.3 percent to 13 percent (as of November 2014). Toyota also saw an increase in its market share, growing by 1.7 percent from the year before, driven by strong demand for the all-new Corolla Altis and all-new Vios, but it was not sufficient to maintain its lead over Honda, ending the month of November with 12.3 percent market share. While it was a good year for both Honda and Toyota, the same cannot be said for our national brands. Perodua saw a marginal decline in its market share, from 34 percent in 2013 to 33.1 percent in 2014. Meanwhile, Proton lost a lot of ground in 2014. Between 2012 to November 2014, Proton’s market share had eroded by more than five percent, to just 20.1 percent.
