Honduras day 6 for team 2: we have had 2 great days. wednesday is our day off which means sleeping in for some and shopping for others. we have many first timers on this team so much money was spent. We all went out for dinner at a local restaurant. there service is on honduran time. took over 2 hours but time well spent as we all talked and laughed. tim daniel showed us his mind reading talent and one of the translators, Di, showed us a trick using forks and toothpicks that none of us have yet to figure out. only real excitement was that my truck i was driving home from the clinic tuesday got stopped by the police and the military. i think it was my 6 day old beard that made them suspicious. i was profiled. have they never heard of the bill of rights!!! anyway, i smiled and asked the guy, hunter, who was riding with me if he had his passport and , of course, he said no. they asked for my passport and visa. then they wanted my car registration. they asked me many questions which i answered in my best spanglish. the military guys were going through the stuff in the back which was our dental equipment. i kept my overstuffed suitcase on my lap which made it difficult for them to see or talk to hunter. after about 5 minutes they wished me a good day and i started breathing again. the thought of the inside of a honduran jail is not pleasant. today we went to a village we have never been before called Cacao. It was great. on monday the 3 doctors saw 322 patients and today we saw 309. the pre-dent and pre-nursing students have gotten some real hands on experience. kaylee hamilton worked with me today while hunter stinson worked with Tim daniel, an interventional radiologist from thomasville. the pharmacy is running so smooth. i dont exactly know what there system is but it works. our missionary rhonda sweeny is in charge of pulling medication but by now most all the pharmacy workers can do this. the pharmacy is staffed with cricket daniel, tim danile 14 year old daughter. what an experience to share with your child. Pricilla roberts, wife of one of our doctors phil roberts of albany, is a pleasure to have on the team. she is in her 70s and is a worker. phil and pricilla have always wanted to do mission work and we are blessed they have chosen our team to start their mission career. Beth maige and katrina haseman are our tallahassee connection. they are not medical people but have a heart to serve. that is all they need to help this team and both have picked up the pharmacy routine. both also enjoy playing with the honduran children. Jennie roberts from dublin has been with this team for 8 trips. she is a worker. she is a veteran of the pharmacy and is the one people go to with questions. pam and courtney hamilton have also made their home in the pharmacy. the reason pam and courtney came was because kaylee was coming. i am not sure what they expected but i believe they will be changed by the experience. robby brinson, dentist, has been with us for 5 years. robby and bob wright, our oral surgeon, have relieved pain and suffering more than us medical doctors ever could. if you have ever had an infected tooth you understand the relief when it is removed. not a tooth is safe from these 2 guys. anne wright, bobs wife, has handled dental sterilization this week. anne has been at least 5 times. Devon wright, bob and annes granddaughter, is assisting bob with his surgery. devon will end up in the medical field. devon is going to emmanual college is boston, mass and majoring in microbiology and political science with a minor in spanish. wow!!! leah brinson, robbys daughter, is a pre-nursing student. she has shadowed doctors and handled triage. kelly lord is one of our 3 UGA students. she is also pre-nursing but has spent some time in the dental clinic. all our students have been pulling teeth. linda berl worked in pharmacy last week but this week is in charge of eye glasses. this is very rewarding to see someone who has not been able to read for years suddenly be able to see. of course, linda tests their eyesight by having them read the spanish bible. if i left anyone on the team out i am sorry but i leave someone off every time i write a note. the bottom line is that people are being helped, lives are being changed and God is being glorified. need i say more. seth
