Honestly, I didnt know how the presentation and suggestions would - TopicsExpress

Honestly, I didnt know how the presentation and suggestions would hit home with with the students, they can be a tough crowd to make an impression. Im so glad the message to dig deeper and think about the questions differently made sense to at least one person. I have so much hope and excitement about what young people will do in the future and positive feedback like this helps me stay committed to helping them value and affirm what they have to offer. When you came to speak about Self-Branding to NKMA I looked at the sheet you gave us and thought I had all my answers, but as you spoke on each subject I realized I had a lot of thinking to do about my career still. I loved how you took a simple and standard question like, what is your major, and transformed it into the practical question, what skills are you developing, instead. Like I said, I had many answers to what I saw on the handout, but they were all answers to the standard questions. I had not thought deeply into WHY I wanted to become a non-profit marketer and IF my skills really aligned with that position. Your presentation inspired me to think more on what I want to do with my life. Before this I thought that my brand was just a list of accomplishments on a resume, but now I know that it is much more than that. In order to really brand myself in a positive way I need to understand my own desires. The most interesting thing that you brought up was that passion is not a necessity for enjoying your career. You will have bad and boring days, you said, but you need to decide what is worth sticking through those days. What will you be committed to? That was your biggest question and I honestly believe that I am in the right field when you ask that. My response is, I will be committed to finding solutions and solving world wide problems, which is a perfect commitment for non-profit marketing. Thank you for taking worry away from me that I am in the wrong major. You ensured me that I am not and you are driving me to think more about why I want to do everything I do. This goes much deeper than just careers. It can be applied to life in general.
