Honestly I have had a hard time trying to work out how to share this post because Im not exactly influential and I do get what hes saying, but Ive been in a situation where I was heavily trained in what I consider to be a pretty up-there martial art, and I will say this: when sh*t hit the fan, I sh*t myself. Spent 5 years training solidly, thought I was awesome, walking alone one night down some alley in freezing London because I was a bit drunk... some dude out of nowhere tries to mug me. All I can say is that the only reason I walked away without an injury was pure LUCK, because I think that guy wasnt used to mugging people. When he went to hit me in the head with a bottle, which I half-assed blocked because my body had shut-down (and no matter how much my brain was yelling at me to hit him nothing would move), I could feel the lack of intent in his arm. Seriously, if he was used to smashing someone in the head, Id have been a mess. I walked away that night realising I wasnt a martial artist, I was a human being. I do not mean this as any disrespect at all, but we need to stop saying If you want to be a martial artist, all you need is... and start telling people things that might save them from getting hurt. Peace.
