Honesty. Those who know me closely know that the past 18 months has been a game of financial “whack-a-mole”. I made some poor decisions, investments and had a nice long string of mishaps back to back which have pushed me into an embarrassingly weak position. I am not “sharing it all” for sympathy, or encouragement. My beautiful wife Tammy is my rock, and affords me all of the emotional support and encouragement any person could ask for. I am “sharing it all” for two reasons, the fear, the stress the anxiety are crippling and confronting that fear of people knowing how rough our ship has gotten is the only way I know of to take that power away. Secondly, again as those of you who know me can attest: I live for honesty. I hate fraudulently placating this persona of who I am to many people. My wife and I quit our jobs with $160 to our collective names 5 years ago, and from that built our collection, our house, our life. A task insurmountable in hindsight. I am proud of what I have done, and the contributions I have had my hand in regarding herpetoculture. With that said, raising herps has it’s extreme ups and downs- and I have found myself more reseller than breeder these days. A practicality which does not suit me psychologically. After months of consideration, coupled with the burden of outstanding debts within the community I have decided that we must change our path. I have decided to get a “real job”, liquidate what remains of my skeleton of a collection: and settle debts to simplify my life. I am not leaving the hobby--I will rebuild--with a more cautious approach. I habitually pile on, trying to do more, be better and push myself. This is unsustainable at this point in time. So I will be pulling away from my involvement with groups such as RAACA, MHP and others. In the coming days I will be listing projects/holdbacks/grow ups etc… Thank you for your support.
