Honesty with God I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and - TopicsExpress

Honesty with God I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all! Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying, “Is this the one who relies on the Lord? Then let the Lord save him! If the Lord loves him so much, let the Lord rescue him!” Psalm 22:6-8 When someone asks, “How are you?” do you ever reply, “Oh, just great,” when really you are doing anything but great? At times we talk to God that way, telling him what we think he wants to hear but not sharing our true selves. The psalmist didn’t operate like that with the Lord. He told it like it was: I’m a worm. I’m despised. I’m mocked. I’m desperate. I need you. He even told God he felt distant and ignored by him. These may sound like brash things to say to the almighty God, but David was honest with the Lord, and God honored that honesty; he rescued David and blessed him. A great transformation, new intimacy with the Lord and rest in our souls will come into our lives when we are totally honest with God. Are you discouraged? Tell God honestly about it. Do you not even feel like praying? God receives you just as you are and stands ready to forgive, empower, and bless you as you draw near to him. FATHER, help me to be just as candid as a child when I come to you, to honestly express what I think, what I feel, and what I need. Give me confidence that you accept my honesty just as any loving father accepts his child’s honest expressions of feelings or needs. Honesty is a vital element of true prayer. . . . Prayer will increase in power and reality as we repudiate all pretense and learn to be utterly honest before God as well as before men. A. W. Tozer (1897–1963) The One Year Bible
