Hong Kong’s share of China’s GDP has plunged from over 15% to less than 3%. The news came just days before Beijing declared it would still maintain oversight in the planned 2017 popular election for the citys chief executive. The findings are likely to stoke further anxiety about the former British colonys economic and political future and threaten to transform Hong Kong into a second-tier Chinese city.
