Honor Posted on March 5, 2014 by McKennas Fire Today was a day of honor. I have been praying for weeks about hosting a WhiteBoard (thewhiteboardbible) Bible Study group in my home. I have had such fear because I’ve felt inadequate, unqualified, and uncertain of what I’d do or say to make it a “good” bible study. I have quietly listened after seeking advice from others who have hosted studies before and who I felt were more experienced than me (as I’ve never read the whole Bible through, I don’t know all the books by name, I can’t recite each story, etc). The best (and most common) advice I received from them was, “You don’t have to know what to do or what to say. The Holy Spirit called you to do this, and He will guide you.” Their words were so simple and amazingly true. I can graciously say, the Holy Spirit was my guide as I hosted 12 beautiful people in my home, tonight. Praise to my loving God! I couldn’t have imagined hosting 2 people in my own talent, let alone 12… but God was so gracious. I felt honored He would use me at such a large capacity, when I felt as though I didn’t measure up, and I was truly honored to share my home with other people who are wanting to learn and study, too. It’s incredible when a group of people coming from all walks of life and varied knowledge of Christ can join in an intimate (and sometimes intimidating) setting and open their hearts and minds to learning more about His Word and each other. The fellowship atmosphere was loving and comfortable, and people I thought would never open up to share about their limited and/or experienced understanding of Christ and the Bible spoke up confidently and happily. We shared what we knew and what we didn’t know. We respected one another’s thoughts and opinions, and God continued to open our hearts minute by minute. “Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God.” (1 Peter 2:17-19) I also felt so blessed and honored earlier this afternoon when I returned to work (after lunch) to find a tissue paper-wrapped gift (with a cheery butterfly sticker!) on my desk. When I opened it up, there was a beautifully hand-carved cross in my hands. I smiled so big I think my teeth were beaming sunrays! My co-worker walked in my office to tell me a client (and friend!) had dropped that off for me. He said she told him it was made out of olive wood from Jerusalem. When he told me, I knew exactly who it was from, as this wonderful woman (and her husband) have blessed me with a cross from Jerusalem before upon hearing of David’s passing. I couldn’t help but continue to spin the cross in my hand as I looked at him and continued to tell him, “You just can’t imagine how amazing this is to me! How cool is it to hold something from Jerusalem?! I am so excited right now!” My co-worker laughed and said he could tell I was really enjoying it. But in all honesty… that was an understatement. I was LOVING it! I was HONORED to hold it! HONORED she thought of me! And HONORED on a day where sweaty palms and nerves about “messing up” leading a bible study was glorified in one precious gift to show me God was with me and He would lead the way. I would now like to take a moment to honor her and sincerely thank her for blessing me. [Thank you for listening to God and allowing him to use you and your amazing gift to calm my heart and remind me the Holy Spirit will be with me every minute of the night… not to fear… not to worry… He would handle my words and He would direct my steps. THANK YOU. You have a true heart of gold.] I am looking forward to five more Wednesdays of this bible study session. My home isn’t huge, and we may have to cuddle close (we’re a bible study FAMILY!), but I still say more the merrier. You are always welcome, and if you feel the calling on your heart to attend, please honor us with your presence. We’re all at different stages in our life and our journey, but the beauty is we are all still learning, and we can all learn together. Thanks be to an Almighty God, in HIS HONOR and abundant blessing.
