Honor Student Gabby Calhoun Indicted, Charged with Two Felonies The Bloomington, Illinois Police Department has just announced that a grand jury has indicted Gabriella Calhoun. Calhoun is an honor student who says that she was knocked unconscious by police after being assaulted by an officer. But the police have a different account that they are sticking to, claiming that Calhoun was the actual assailant. The case has gotten widespread attention, after the 5’5″, 130 pound Calhoun had her face seriously bruised and her front teeth knocked out by the police. This all occurred during an incident at a Denny’s restaurant after a fight took place in the parking lot. Calhoun says that neither she, nor any of her friends, were involved in the fight. She also says that an officer grabbed her first, knocked her unconscious and then kept choking her after she woke up. She also claims that the officer said, “I don’t care if you have asthma” and forced her to walk across a crowded restaurant with her upper body in full view of other patrons. In the police report, which you can read here, the police have charged Calhoun with aggravated battery to a peace officer, and resisting a peace officer with officer injury .Each charge is a felony count, which could send the promising college student to prison. Gabriella was attending Wiley College on a singing scholarship after graduating from high school a year early. The university is backing her in her efforts to deal with the situation. Her older brother also attended Wiley College and was a strong student on his way to medical school. The police have been accused of officer misconduct, which they claim they are investigating. Gabriella and her family are sticking to their story, claiming that Gabriella has never even been on detention during her years at high school and did nothing wrong. They say that police were racially profiling Gabriella and her friends, forcing them to leave the Denny’s restaurant just because they were the same race as the women in the parking lot who got into the fight. Police claim that they’ve got video evidence implicating Calhoun, but the video reportedly cuts away from the scene where Gabriella says that the officer beat and choked her. Police also have yet to allow the public to see the video..
