Honore is Under-10 RBC champ Maria Honore won the girls Under-10 singles category in the RBC Junior Tennis tournament at Trinidad Country Club, Maraval, yesterday. Honore, who fought hard to win her semifinal match on Tuesday in three sets faced Cai Drummond. Honore prevailed in a tight first set 5-3, then won the second set 4-1 to claim the crown. In the boys U-10 semifinals, David Rodriguez and Ethan Wong advanced to the finals in contrasting styles. Rodriguez needed three sets to get past Luca Shamsi (4-2, 0-4, 10-1), while Wong won in straight sets over Josh Gonsalves (4-2, 5-4). Also advancing to finals yesterday were Solange Skeene, Yin Lee Assang, Emma-Rose Trestrail, Ethan Jeary, Aidan Carter, Lily Lanser, Che Andrews and Sanjeev Seenath. In the novice category, Haleigh Fabres won the girls U-10 title, while Lauren Carrington snatched the girls U-14 title. Christopher Thorp won the boys U-12 consolation final when he defeated Keiel Yearwood in straight sets. A number of matches finished after press time yesterday due to rain.
