Honour and Pride In the private sector, its not always you - TopicsExpress

Honour and Pride In the private sector, its not always you would find Baba Kalyanis and Ratan Tatas. After about 8 years with the Tata group, I decided to move over to the Suzlon Group, basically to meet the challenge of establishing a training academy for the group on the lines of Tata Management Training Center and more. I started with the blue prints of both the physical and intellectual infrastructure and ended with a magnificent edifice, which we called Suzlon Excellence Academy or SEA in short. The training was across the Suzlon value chain and spanned from technical to behavioural. The tag line was Explore, Experience, Excel. The academy gathered great momentum and was one of its own kind in the Wind Power Industry. While Tulsi Tanti the founder, and Chairman of the group was very down to earth and humble and gave due respect to the professionals, his younger brothers had the promoters hat firmly placed on their undeserving heads. Given a chance they used to convey it to the employees who is the master. Surprisingly majority of the so called top professionals used to lump it,except for very few people like Sumant Sinha (Jaswant Sinhas son) who was the COO and yours truly, the CLO (Chief Learning Officer) On one occasion the Headmaster of Bishop School where Girish Tanti (the youngest of the Tanti brothers)s young son was studying was invited by him to visit the corporate headquarters. My Academy used to be the gateway and the show piece of the company. I get a message from Girishs secretary that he expects me to stand at the entrance with a Bouquet in hand to welcome his special guest. That was never the practice. Normally my Admin Head or the receptionist receives the guests and if necessary they are escorted to my office, where I welcome them. Only in cases of VVIP guests whom I invite on behalf of the company, I am around physically when they are received in a formal manner. I suggested that it would be better if Mrs Tanti receives their esteemed guest and that would perhaps leave a better impression on him and be good for his son. Girish was smart enough to realise my refusal and had no other option than to send a young girl from corporate communication to receive the guests, who came almost one hour late!
