Hope today was interesting. As we discussed, it can be easy to fall into the mindset where you favor one group over another and let injustice go unchecked. Information on the Stanford Prison Experiment I mentioned can be found on Wikipedia. You can see how normal, everyday people can drift into unethical behavior. Also Matt mentioned another exercise that demonstrated similar behavior in school children. It was performed by Jane Elliott and is often referred to as the blue eyes-brown eyes exercise. You can look up the documentary Eye of the Storm to see more about it. A Class Divided was an episode of Frontline that looks back on the exercise. Of course the point of the lesson was that we need to be looking for opportunities in all walks of life to stand up for those that cant stand up for themselves. I hope to keep us engaged on this throughout this week (and beyond). This doesnt need to be just a Sunday morning discussion. Ive included the video from today so that those of you that were unable to attend can watch it and participate as well.
