Areas include: 1) scope and challenges associated with maintaining an energy efficient building, 2) building science, 3) building shells, 4) heating and cooling, 5) energy usage, and 6) energy auditing. It will have an in-depth, hands-on to planning, conducting, documenting and evaluating energy audits in an industrial setting. The effects of chemicals and invasive plants on the ecosystem, using native plants and encouraging pollinators. The goal of the class is to equip the participants with the knowledge necessary to create a natural habitat that meets the Cape Fear Audubon Society guidelines for the Audubon Bird Friendly Award. The skill sets obtained in this class are applicable to: commercial growers, nurseries, grounds crews, and groundskeepers for golf courses, institutions and resorts. 8/19/2014 9/25/2014 6:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. TTH S $125.00 Solar PV NABCEP Entry Level Exam Prep: This course provides instruction on the fundamentals of Solar Photovoltaic systems. Students will learn design criteria, installation, safety issues, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems, construction skills, and applied math skills. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base for an entry level position with a dealer/installer Solar Photovoltaic industry. This class also includes the OSHA 10 hour pocket card training and prepares the student to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Solar PV Entry Level Exams. 9/20/2014 11/8/2014 9:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. S $282.50 Main Campus in Bolivia, NC Sustainable Winemaking This course will overview the skills necessary in sustainable wine making practices, according to the California Code of Sustainable Winegrowing Workbook. During the course we will cover sustainable business strategy, viticulture, soil management, water management, pest management, wine quality, ecosystem management, energy efficiency, materials handling, and environmentally preferable purchasing.
