Hope you had a productive week. Today i just wanted to talk about some of the things we talked about at Fridays service. This guy named Bart Campolo grew up in a Christian home and his dad was a famous well-known pastor, Tony Campolo. Although he was raised a christian and even became a pastor these events that occurred made him stumble in his faith and eventually lose it. But one of the main questions that even we have is: Why does God let these bad things happen? When PT asked us this question truthfully i didnt have an answer just the typical answer, because God has a plan. Anyways throughout the article these events that made him stumble in his faith kept happening, but i didnt realize why until the end. Alot of us including me came to church through a friend or family and alot of us went to church for that exact reason. We wanted to hang with friends or be in that social community. So, the reason why God kept putting these setbacks in Barts life was so that he would realize he was going to church and preaching for the wrong motive, but Bart couldnt see that. He rejected God and started preaching a different gospel a gospel that had only the positive things. PT had a really good analogy to this. In recent built cars if you dont put on your seatbelt it beeps until you do. This is called a negative reinforcement. The beeping is the stimulus that annoys the crap out of you until you put on the seatbelt, which protects you. So the beeping is the negative part but the actual putting on seatbelt is the reinforcer.(sorry some psychology) Anyways so all these events that happened in Barts life were negative reinforcers so that he would realize that he needed to open his eyes and see that God has a much bigger plan if he would allow it. But it didnt work out. While we were talking about this seatbelt thing i was thinking to myself its kind of like a do or die moment. God put all these barriers in his life hoping that he would overcome them, but he kept falling. Its a huge risk with an equal chance of good and bad. If you think about it when we joined church, we didnt take it to seriously, but Gods plan was that hopefully as we continue to go to church even if for the wrong reason that we would eventually come around and see that church is to glorify God not for a social gathering. Bart right now is still lost, but people still believe that he will come around because God isnt going to give up. I pray that those of you guys who do go to church for social reasons will really come around Like i DID! All Glory to God............Amen
