Horror Movie Marathon 10/28 Movie 28 - Sleepy Hollow Scare Factor - Tim Burton Creepiness I think this is my second Tim Burton movie on my list. Technically it should be my third because I normally would add The Nightmare Before Christmas, but that movie is on my family only list and not my top horror films. This movie is a favorite of mine and I remember when I first HAD the chance to see it. My family was sitting down to watch it but I was dating this retard and she had this entire sticking to our convictions bit about not watching such movies. What a fag. Anyways, I finally got the chance to see this movie and I instantly loved it. Sleepy Hollow is loosely based on the 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving. I say loosely because it isnt the actual story at all. Yea the names, the horsemen and the town are there but everything like the characters reasoning and plot are a new creation. It makes sense. The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow is a short story, translated to film only lasting less than an hour at best. Watch the Disneys 1949 cartoon version of it narrated by Bing Crosby. Its one of their short films, and that is only 30 minutes long and even that has some looseness to it. So yea, when someone said Hey, lets make this into a movie! A writer had to think it needed more of a deeper storyline. To be honest that happens all the time and its not always a good thing. But this movie works. Like I said its based on the short story. Ickabod Crane is a New York detective sent to investigate a slew of murders in a Dutch settlement in upstate NY called Sleepy Hollow. As a man of science and reasoning Ichabod ventures on a quest to seek out a murderer using new scientific experiments. What he soon realizes is that the murderer he is hunting is very far from science and that a great concpiracy is at work. You have to love this movie for what it is. You cant be to over critical of the film, the first hour is the strongest part and then the movie becomes kind of an action/horror/mystery style film. But its enjoyable because theres only so much head chopping that keeps you entertained. But the head chopping is pretty sweet. Infact the movie is brutally violent and its great stuff. Every death is memorable. It may play a factor into the style of the film. Being that its a Tim Burton film; everything is dark and erie. Skin tones are pale and there are no greens or blues. The only prominent colors are the reds and maybe another tint here and there to elaborate on the importance of an object. Kind of like Schindlers List but without the crying. So when someone dies, there blood sticks out big time! Even a small cut to the hand has a strong presence in the film. If more movies did this then I think people would react stronger to them. But the movie has this macabre beauty to it and it definetely puts you in the mood of the film. Ichabod is played by Johnny Depp and Katrina Van Tassel is played by Christina Ricci. They both do a good job at their parts. I think this might have been Depps first Burton movie but this was before he got annoying. The movie does have an insane cast when I think about it. Christopher Walkin is the headless horseman an that is so awesome. But my favorite is Christopher Lee as Burgomaster. Hes only in the film for the first few minutes but its Christopher Lee. The dude can take a five minute role and turn it into gold. Its seriously a great movie that should be on anyones Halloween collection. The plot to the story may seem a little deep and hard to get. But it all makes sense. That might be the only dilemma. You really dont care about the plot. I just want to see the horseman go off on people and for them to figure a way to stop them. So check this movie out and enjoy.
