Horror crash: 1 truck, 22 cars The petrol tanker allegedly lost control due to mechanical failure- Paramedics. The accident scene on the N12 in Johannesburg this morning. A horror crash involving a petrol tanker and about 22 cars has already resulted in three deaths, with the number of fatalities expected to rise. A petrol tanker ploughed through traffic on the N12 in the south of Johannesburg, near Alberton, on Tuesday morning. The scene can be described as absolute carnage, with car parts spread across the highway, according to ER24’s Russel Meiring. Meiring said paramedics were currently on scene and have so far counted three fatalities, nine critical patients and around 47 people with minor to moderate injuries. “The petrol tanker allegedly lost control due to mechanical failure and piled into around 22 cars,” said Meiring. The highway has been closed off and there is currently a major backlog in traffic.
