Horse seizures done When I started Equine Angels Rescue in 2010, - TopicsExpress

Horse seizures done When I started Equine Angels Rescue in 2010, it was to help make a difference in this community for horses, as they had no voice and were not addressed as an animal needing much help. I have had a successful salon for 20 years, so by no means was I looking to make money. I simply wanted to give back after having been blessed for many years in my profession. Soon a six-stall rescue turned into a 40-horse stall barn and it was filled with neglected and abandoned horses, all which were usually surrendered or left to care for themselves. Last year was the beginning of our helping the state deal with seized horses that had been left for some time. Many horses were brought to us this past winter, probably more than 50 — some emaciated beyond understanding, some half-dead in mud, some with no shelter or food standing in below-freezing temperatures. Still, it was not Equine Angels Rescue who chose whether or not to help these animals, as we do not have the authority to seize any animal. We were formed to rehabilitate. We have never said no to a horse in need. From track horses ending their career to older horses needing to enjoy what they have left of life, we were not partial. People say we make money; I almost cannot repeat that without laughing. Each horse we take in costs us easily $355 a month in care plus veterinary and farrier costs. Some horses end up staying with us for months of rehabilitation and others a year or longer. Usually a fee of $300 to $500 is asked upon adoption to help us recover some costs, but that does not put a dent in what we usually have to put into it. Some are adopted for free or fostered out to help us make room to help others that need help. The accusations from the people who have abused these horses is coming from embarrassment, denial and revenge. Anyone who has ever visited our facilty and sees what we do gives us full support. We have always said that if you doubt us, just call me with questions or please come visit. We clean our stalls daily, put down fresh bedding every day; water buckets are scrubbed and filled daily. We have 15 pastures, all with grass in them and we feed only the best grain and second-cut hay. Please come verify this for yourself — don’t jump on the bandwagon without seeing for yourself what we do and how our horses are cared for. They have the best of everything. We would love for people to see all of our photos from any rescue. We have tons of photos and people can judge them for themselves also. We will never take in another seized animal, since the state does not care about it after it hits our rescue. This has become what it is now because of no enforcement from the district attorney of what the law is. We incur costs that they do not understand or appreciate, nor have they given any help to recuperate. We will continue to help horses and will not be discouraged by negative people who do not have correct information or have not verified it for themselves. We will prevail ... and ask yourself please, before you judge: Are you making any difference in life?
