Summary: Provides personal care and routine light housekeeping duties and procedures to assigned hospice patients in their place of residence, under the supervision of a RN. Minimum Education: - High school level coursework in English grammar, composition and mathematics. Minimum Work Experience: - One year experience providing patient care in a hospital, nursing facility, or similar environment. Is a current State Tested Nurse Assistant e.g., STNA or equivalent and demonstrates competency in direct patient care during probationary period. Required Skills/Knowledge: - Valid Ohio driver’s license with safe driving record and proof of insurance. - Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with hospice patients, family members, interdisciplinary caregivers, peers, management, and community. - Maintains confidentiality of all patient information. - Assures that patient rights are maintained at all times. Reports any violations or suspected deviations according to policy. - Follows safety, security, infection control (Body Substance Isolation) and hazardous materials policies and procedures. Assures patient, personal, and coworker safety. - Shows flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and demands placed on services as is common with changing reimbursement and managed care targets. - Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, frequent pushing, pulling and lifting of patients, cleaning equipment, and materials. - Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity. - Demonstrates effective time management with daily schedule, individual treatment sessions, and non-patient care time. - Assumes accountability for demonstrating behaviors consistent with the customer service policy. - Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
