Hospital stinks William J .Mbangula Wednesday, April 30, 2014 - 08:00 Patients, nurses and visitors to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital are said to be disgusted by increasing stench coming from the sluice room of Ward 5. “We are here to be treated and cared for by our health workers, but at the same time, our welfare is being violated by the stench coming from the sluice room. This is despite the fact that we have complained to the authorities for many days, but no improvement has been effected so far,” Informanté was told.The source went on to complain that if the patients and visitors could not stand the terrible stench coming from the sluice room, it should be much worse for the nurses who are handling the waste themselves. Oshakati Intermediate Hospital superintendent Dr Josephine Augustinus confirmed that the hospital is facing sewerage system problems, but declined to confirm if the problem was reported to the relevant authorities to be rectified. “We have our own channels of communication where we report our problems but I cannot tell you whether we have done it or not,” she said. Augustinus also complained about those who went to complain to the media instead of reporting the matter to the hospital authorities. The Oshana Regional representative of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication, Simon Tokwe said nothing was reported to his office despite the fact that he is in touch with hospital authorities on a daily basis.
