House-Made Cold Pressed Juices are recent addition to Whole Foods - TopicsExpress

House-Made Cold Pressed Juices are recent addition to Whole Foods Market Town and Country. Ricky supervises the production of our New Juices. We talked to him to find out more about what makes cold pressed juices special, and what inspired him to join work at Whole Foods. Q: When did you start at Whole Foods? A: I started March 31st in 2013. Prior to that I was working as a supervisor at a coffee shop. Q: What made you want to work at Whole Foods? A: I respected the Core Values of Whole Foods. I love this idea of ethically sourced, super high-quality food. When I would shop there, I could see the passion that the team members had for the company and those values, and I wanted to be part of it. Q: If I remember correctly, I think you started on the Customer Service Team. Why did you switch to Produce to become the Cut Fruit Supervisor? A: Im passionate about the fresh produce that we offer in that department. I also really like a face-paced environment, and produce department is without a doubt a fast paced. It enables me to express my get up and go personality, and it also has a lot of positive energy.” Q: What does Cut Fruit embody? A: So I look after our House-Made Cold Pressed Juices; House-Made Orange Juice; House-Made Guacamole; House-Made Salsa; Cut Vegetables; and Fresh Coconut water Q: I understand that the capability to make Cold Pressed Juices is new to our store. Can you tell me about that? A: “Yeah. So, weve moved away from a multi-juicer to Cold Pressing all our House-Made Juices. With Cold Press Juices we are effectively able to double the nutrient density and quality of our juices. Whenever you add heat to a food (or pasteurize it), by nature of the process, you lose some of the naturally occurring nutrients and enzymes. Thats why lots of off the shelf juices have to reintroduce nutrients after they are processed. Cold pressing enables us to provide our customers with a single juice thats more nutrient dense, cleaner, tastier, smoother, and more well balanced. Q: Why would someone want juice instead of just eat the actual food? A: “Thats a good question. Its a great way to up our nutrients, and add fruits and vegetables to our diets. Our cells need and crave nutrients, and while its possible to feel full from eating, one can still be nutrient deficient. Juicing is a great way to get those nutrients and enzymes, but it removes he labor of cooking, preparing, and eating that one would have to do to get an equal amount of nutrients.” Q: Whats your favorite juice? A: “It depends. I like them all for different reasons because theyre all great for different things – muscle recovery, detox, energy, etc..If youre forcing me to choose one, I would choose Belly Vibe. It has Cabbage, Parsley, Pineapple, and Mint. YUM!” Thanks to Ricky for taking time for sharing his passion for Whole Foods and Fresh Juices!
