Houston friends: My good friend Kendra is in need of 2-3 volunteers July 14-18 from 1-3p in Seabrook at the Youth Village. Kendra works for Heifer International (heifer.org/) & will be doing a teaching project. The curriculum, etc. is provided. Mileage will be reimbursed. Anyone interested? Message me for more info. Heifer International is a nonprofit whose mission is to work with communities to end global hunger and poverty. Our presence in Houston is dedicated to educating the community about what causes hunger and poverty and how we can work together to solve it. The Get It! program was developed for just that purpose for students from 6-8th grade. The specific goal of this program is to educate students about how the choices we make as consumers affect the entire world. It explores large commodities (bananas, coffee, and flowers) to show how we can make a difference from right where we are to change the face of poverty in our world. This particular delivery of the program will be at Youth Village in Seabrook as part of their Freedom School. The Freedom School seeks to show the participants how they can live for more than just themselves and can change their families, their country and their world.
