Houtvink Artists Profile of the week: Jayne Cully is predominantly a Wildlife photographer from Cape Town, where she is respected and well admired. She has travelled extensively in Asia & Europe throughout her career and has returned to Paarl, Cape Town to live and continue her creative practice- mostly through Photographic mediums and occasionally with drawing media or oil paints. Jayne typically photographs South African wildlife in its most intimate and natural state- against surreal beautiful surroundings of Camel thorn trees, red dunes and bare dusty vegetation. Cully has been practicing photography from roughly the age of 16 when she completed her first photographic course at Ruth Prowse school of Art. She then decided to move to Hong Kong, China where she continued to learn and further discover her creative strengths in the photographic medium. After her adventures in Hong Kong came to an end, Jayne completed an honors course in Photography from the University of Westminster in London. She returned in 2009 to South Africa when she started on her ‘photographic safari’ trips where she began encountering Wildlife- leaving her captivated and hooked on capturing the spirit of African wildlife in an awe inspiring and emotive way. Jayne’s works can be viewed and purchased from either Holden Manz or Houtvink Art Gallery in Ebenezer Road in Green Point, Cape Town.
