How Does Christ Mediate? | Luke Haskell Christ, present to us in His Body, which is the Church, is the one Mediator and the unique way of salvation. In explicit terms He Himself affirmed the necessity of faith and baptism (cf. Mk 16:16) and thereby affirmed also the necessity of the Church, for through baptism as through a door men enter the Church. Whosoever, therefore, knowing that the Catholic Church was made necessary by Christ, would refuse to enter or to remain in it, could not be saved (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, 14). How does Christ mediate? Christ mediates for the world through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (Rev. 8:3, 11:1, 14:18, 16:7) as the high priest Melchizedek (Heb. 5:10) who forever offers a sacrifice of bread and wine worthy of the Father in its infinite merit (Lk. 22:19, Rev 1:13) through the officiating priest (1 Cor 11:24) who presides over the laity of the royal priesthood redeemed through baptism into Christ Jesus (Gal. 3:26-29 Mal.3:3 )in the company of a cloud of witnesses of heaven, the spirits of the just made perfect and the heavenly host (Heb. 12, Rev. 4:8, Rev. 5:8, 6:9-11, 8:3-4Rev. 6:9) From the rising of the sun until its setting (Mal. 1:11) for the sins of the world. (Rev. 2:5,16, 21; 3:3, 16:11)
