How I got started.... Well honestly, it took trying on a pair of stretchy size 13 jeans (already on their last days of being wearable) and a family event to make me realize I wasnt happy with how I look and felt about myself. I knew I need to buy a size bigger in pants and stop wearing medium shirts because I looked like a sausage casing in them. I was tired of sucking it in and my knees started to give me problems. My husband saw me so upset and instead of comforting me he told me, stop complaining and do something about it then. I love his tough supportive love. I decided to start slow, in April of 2011 by taking small walks around my neighborhood which escalated to speed walking and jogs. I downloaded The Biggest Loser workout videos via ITunes and watched them on my computer and IPhone. It was a great beginner workout for me. Come June 1st, 2011 (my official start date of my weight loss journey) I joined Fit N Fine Fitness, a local womens only gym in Santa Paula, my home town. The workouts were similar to The Biggest Loser, the only difference was I wasnt working out alone. I remember, my first class, our trainer Courtney asked us to hold a plank. I couldnt hold a plank for longer than 15 seconds. I was dying. I kept telling myself why the heck did I come here and why was I torturing myself. I needed to get out of here asap! I kept looking at my sister and telling her I couldnt do this. I felt so out of shape and embarrassed. I swear I can still remember the feeling I felt that day....I let is soak in after class and I told myself that I had to go thru this madness to get back my health that I had damaged due to the unhealthy style I was living. Luckily before I left the gym, I heard they were having a weight loss contest, so I got measured and entered before I left. That would literally change my life! As soon as I got home, I knew I had to start documenting this journey and keep a visual track (photos) for progress so I did. I was so embarrassed of how I looked and didn’t feel comfortable to ask anyone (even my husband) to take my future ‘before’ photo, so I set up my professional camera on timer and attempted to take 3 photos of myself in my underwear and sports bra. I printed the images and made a vision board with my goals for that month. I posted it on my wall by my beside so I can have a visual every morning of what I needed to do. In the first month, I went to the gym at least 4 times a day. I drank a lot of water. I continued to talk small walks/jogs around my neighborhood. I stayed motivated because I kept on reminding myself of my goals and waking up to that vision board helped me stay focused. So I got measured and weighed in right before the 4th of July. One month of going crazy at the gym, no junk food and making healthier choices. something I had never done in my life. I lost 16lbs and tons of inches all around. I didnt win the contest, but I was sooooo excited. That excitement died out quick when I fell off track the month of July. My journey was like a rollercoaster. I stopped going to the gym for a month, then went back, then took a month off. This wasnt easy but I knew Id run into obstacles. One thing I told myself was no matter how hard or long this would take, I would NEVER GIVE UP!. So I needed some more motivation, maybe a blog to post EVERYTHING, my journey, ups and downs, a place to seek advice and post progress and one day, show everyone that it can be done. I started this FACEBOOK blog page in February of 2012: La Fit Femenina (THE FIT FEMALE). The reason for this post is to answer one of the most asked questions I get. How did you start? How did I do it? What kept you motivated? No matter who, what and where YOU are, no matter how long it will take you to reach your fitness goals, NEVER GIVE UP! As you can see, this didnt happen over night but Im making it happen, one day at a time and YOU can do it too. Dont give up, dig deep for motivation and do this for yourself. YOU deserve this!
