How I sold a pool cleaning business I didnt own: It started with a text from the homeowner who Ive rented a house from in Austin for the past 1.5 years. He knows how I hussle and is a business man himself. We share profits from the short term rentals throughout the year. We dont talk too much even though he lives 2 doors down. His text said hey call me, its urgent. Being in Croatia I could only text. He said my pool cleaning lady left town today, she notified me and 22 others via email that we will need to find someone else effective immediately... Thing is she sent one email to everyone and I can see the other email addresses. I pay around $175 a month and its easy work and doesnt take long. I thought you may want to start a pool cleaning business since you have such great leads. Meanwhile at the EXACT same time this is going down, Aaron Winning is selling a dirtbike for me in Austin. We chat 10 minutes later and he tells me the situation with the dirtbike sale and I mention we might need to start a pool cleaning business but that it would be tough to do since he is flying over to Europe to meet us and no one will be there to start the business til October and even then we will be busy. Since pools need to be cleaned once a week, our window for the leads would be over. But what should we do with the leads? Someone could make 4-5k per month in the first month if they could close a deal with all of these people around Austin who are now in need of a new pool cleaner. The email was 3 hours old at this point and I had only had it for 5 minutes. Aaron said thats crazy, the dude who just came over for the dirtbike owns a pool cleaning business. I had emailed the guy several times about the motorcycle So I called him immediately. You own a pool cleaning business huh? I then sold him the forwarded email for $1,000. The idea is that he should be able to increase his existing business quickly with those email addresses. Thats the easy to tell version but Im proud of the small details of assurances and closing strategies I used. I mean, you try telling the guy Ive never met you. Im waiting at the border before I cross into Bosnia and I need you to PayPal me $1,000 right now for an email from a pool cleaning business neither one of us have ever heard of! I was nice enough not to sell the same email to every other pool cleaning business in Austin and he was nice enough to throw in free pool cleanings for a month for my homeowner and a reduced rate for the rest of the year. --- I like forward emails now!
