How Was The Tears Of The Best Of Mankind? When the Prophet (ﷺ) cried, it was similar to his laughing, without exaggeration or audible sound. Likewise, he did not weep out loud. His eyes would get tearful, until they became wet and the sound of grief could be heard from his chest. He used to cry when feeling mercy for the dead or dying, for fear and compassion for his Ummah and for fright from Allah. He cried on hearing the Quran being recited for eagerness, love and respect for the Quran, while feeling fear and fright [from Allah].
