How about mandatory extra authentic language learning experiences time instead? Dont get me wrong, reading instruction matters- a lot. But it is misguided to think that simply adding more of it, especially when its too heavily teacher directed, is going to change the trajectory of a childs reading life. Save an identifiable learning disability, most reading problems (and writing problems, too) are actually language problems. Lets treat the disease, not the symptoms. #mytwocents
