How can it be, then -- that decades later -- many of our children still experience some of these things? In 2014? How can it be that an aggressive privatization agenda in this Red State in the Deep South continues to promote de facto segregation -- in this day and age? ... If we believe that education is the way out of poverty, then all public schools serving the most impoverished communities, by design, should be well-resourced, well-staffed, and well-funded. ... Dr. King once said that our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Im here to tell you that ... Circumstances matter! Funding matters! Our children matter! We have to speak up for our children.
