How do we all feel about the fact that the culture industries - TopicsExpress

How do we all feel about the fact that the culture industries (Film, TV, publishing, theatre etc) in Scotland are almost entirely funded by Govt and cannot survive without the states support. At the moment arts investment and funding is spread across the UK - for example Im submitting a proposal for a project that is funded by the BFI, Channel Four and Creative Scotland. Under independence scots would no longer have access to such funds/investments and would have to come banging at the door of the Scottish govt. With Scottish govt funding for the arts would come a cultural remit to promote Scotland. Would Trainspotting or Jeckyll and Hyde have been valued as promoting Scottish culture or representing our culture in a positive light?. I foresee a great narrowing in cultural content to state regulated culture parameters promoting Salmonds tartan utopia. Consider the existing benefits to the community terms and conditions of CS funding. And dont we as artists want to have a UK wide audience? Consider books written by scots for scots. How many do you think they would sell. I have some of the actual stats on the latter and lets put it this way - as a writer youd need to sign on. What do folk in other culture industries think? BTW, commenting and sharing doesnt mean coming out as a No. Dont be afraid to think for yourself. spectator.co.uk/arts/arts-feature/9309962/independence-will-lead-to-artistic-desecration/
