How do you know if your horse needs massaged? - By Mike Scott Once you are used to your horses rhythms and manners, you will probably notice any significant change in them. He may seem stiff, come up short, refuse correct leads, or just seem irritable and cranky. Chances are good he would benefit from a massage. Also, unless you are very experienced, its very important for the rider of a sport horse to receive regular riding lessons....most instructors have a keen eye and can pick up on potential problems long before they become serious. ...Make every effort to be there [at the massage] so the therapist can give you some homework....You will be amazed at the good you can do for your horse by spending the extra few minutes a day massaging him and performing necessary stretches, etc. The horse knows you...best and will trust what you are doing to and for him.
