How do you make Handies feel a little epic than usual? Climb it in - TopicsExpress

How do you make Handies feel a little epic than usual? Climb it in the snow of course! We had an awesome group of 5 from the fall gathering decide on Handies for a Saturday summit. What a gorgeous day! The views when we reached the saddle and then the summit were breathtaking. This made 20 individual 14er summits for me, which was my goal before the summer/fall season ended. I also got to learn about climbing in snow and used my microspikes for the first time (Kahtoola, theyre awe-some!) We got a few mini glissades in on the way down (not quite steep enough, but it was still fun). Post-holing in thigh high snow on the way up was less than fun, but how can I complain about being somewhere so absolutely stunning? Snow changes everything. I love the stillness in the air and the peaceful feeling of being out there when SO few people are. Annnnd, very soon Im sure youll all be treated to an unforgettable performance by miss Danielle for her dance-off video, which was filmed on the summit. We had a front row seat as it was happening and did our best not to laugh hysterically and screw her up. Good job D! The fall gathering was a BLAST. Ron and Kathy you two are amazing and so very generous to give us rides to and from the trailheads and make us hot food for after climbing! What a spectacular treat. THANK YOU. Many fun hours around the campfire and one shot of high quality whiskey for this non-drinker made for a much happier time climbing into that cold, cold tent. What a fun weekend! And thank you Mike, Allison, Danielle and Jomah for an awesome day of hiking!
