How encouraging to read this new review to Authentic Fire. Praise God! I found this book to be engaging- honest- thought provoking- highly readable- and gracious in its response to the Strange fire conference. The appendices were very enlightening as well. a great book to actually have as a companion to Strange fire if you are seeking and trying to understand the nature of Gods movement within the church today. In my own journey- I grew up in a cessationist church- went to a christian college that taught mostly cessationism and a seminary that taught the same. Thus- I have been a cessationist for much of my journey- however over the last ten years- my viewpoint has been challenged by great theologians like Gordon Fee and Ive gotten to personally know and see different continuationists- to hear their stories- to see their love for Christ- for good solid biblical theology- and their love for the gospel; and to find they are not propserity theologians but rather prompted to go to the poorest of the poor and to live alongside them. This has all deeply challenged me. Ive begun to find my position on cessationism has begun to crumble biblically first and then be followed with a desire to see God move. Its been wonderful to see God awakening things in my life and showing me His powerful movement in the world today!
