How exciting it was to discover a hidden fireplace in our home today! Pretty amazing story all the way around. I knew there had to be one but could not figure out where it had been. Then while antiquing, I found a wonderful Fireplace Mantle that looked as if it could have come from this house. It has the same flower and ribbon design as the front door and stair newels...same but different. As I have stenciled, I began to wonder about the angled wall in the LR. The DR and K walls that align with LR were straight...so was there a secret room??? Then it occurred to me that there is a funny patch of wood in my BR floor that is right above the LR. I went and gave it closer inspection to find that; AHA! it was a chimney, then I could see that the walls and ceiling also had telltale signs of once hosting a chimney. Of course that sent me to the basement...there had to be a place where the ashes were sent right? And there it was a pie shape in the old floor where you could tell once were walls and looking up into a pie shaped hole there it was...the remains of what once was. I couldnt get up in there to see how much of it was left. I think not much, but I sure would love to go buy that Mantle and restore it to that angled wall that now seems so excited to have her secret known!
