How fascinating. In any sort of performance review, an employer decides the metrics against which any employee is measured and it is up to the employee to answer to these standards accordingly. Any employee who would use a review as an opportunity to pontificate about how fantastic they are with little regard to where they are failing would be labeled a narcissist and most likely fired. Yet we allow our national and state leaders to do just this every year in their State of the Union addresses and the accompanying responses. How can we begin dismissing the uselessness of empty rhetoric used by ALL politicians at these sorts of functions and begin holding them accountable in a way that is helpful to us, the employer?
